One day, thousands of years from now, historians will look back at what humanity did during our lifetimes and contemplate our achievements and failures. We live in the era when we cracked the genetic code, when we finally understood how the atom works, and when advancements in computer technology have allowed us to process data in a way that not very long ago was unimaginable. Despite all the wonderful things we have discovered and developed, I’m still not sure whether we are in the proper side of history or not. Sure, the ideas that trans humanism develop could bring a legitimate end to the problems that plague us like death, suffering, and disease, but at what cost? It sort of seems like we’re leveraging our humanity– becoming ententes we can barely recognize– in order to allay our greatest fears.
